Halloween reminder that chocolate not good for dogs
PRINCE GEORGE – As trick-or-treaters take to the streets tomorrow and bring home candy, a Prince George vet is reminding us that chocolate is not good for dogs.
Dr. Denise Kleywegt, Veterinarian at the PG Veterinary Hospital says “mostly it’s dogs, because cats are little bit more particular. Theoretically some cats will still eat chocolate, but dogs, what can happen is essentially it’s like a huge, huge dose of caffeine for them.”
Kleywegt says symptoms of mild toxicity are vomiting and diarrhea, and severe toxic doses can cause rapid heart rates, seizures, and possibly death.
