PRINCE GEORGE – Amidst COVID – 19 BC Hydro is finding residents are keeping the holiday spirit alive at home by adding brighter, more elaborate lighting displays this season.

BC Hydro is encouraging residents to use energy-efficient decorations while trying to save Christmas during the pandemic.

According to BC Hydro’s latest report elaborate holiday displays account for about three percent of the provincial electricity load.

This number is expected to grow as more people ramp up their holiday decor.

For 37 years residents living on Candy Cane lane located within the Van Bien Neighbourhood keep the holiday spirit alive by hanging over a hundred thousand lights.

Many of the residents on Candy Cane Lane have switched over to LED lights to help keep the traditions alive.

Bob Gammer with BC Hydro says there is growing popularity in inflatable decorations and to help rescue electricity costs try plugging them into a timer.
