PRINCE GEORGE – Relatives may sometimes find it impossible to stop an elderly relative person from driving.

Even when they see warning signs that it’s no longer safe for them to be behind the wheel.

A local family found themselves dealing with an 82-year-old father inlaw who shows signs of his inability to drive and was given a driver’s license.

Jeff Hann and his wife are struggling with the idea that their elderly relative who lives with dementia recently was issued a new driver’s license.

According to Hann, his 82-year-old father-in-law stubbornly refused to give up the keys.

As a courtesy, Jeff Hann drove his father law to get his license renewed and was expecting he would be refused by officials.

To his surprise, his father-in-law received a driver’s license.

Hann would like frontline staff to have the ability to determine if a person is fit for a driver’s license before issuing a license.

According to MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie Mike Morris frontline staff at Service BC can not access people’s personalities and follow the guidelines.

Once Hann’s father-inlaw was issued a license days later the family doctor deemed unfit to drive.

Hann has taken steps to prevent his father in law from driving.
