We are a year and a half away from the Opening Ceremonies of the 2022 B.C Summer Games.

The event will see athletes from all over the province come to Prince George for the four day event.

Monday night, City Council took the first steps to help prepare for the event as they established a nomination committee.

“We are super excited,” stated Civic Events Coordinator for the City of Prince George, Jen Rubadeau.

“The first component of the planning process is recommended by the B.C Games society is that we make a nomination committee. So it’s a group of people, including the Mayor, some City staff, and some community partners to nominate the working committee. So what is going to become the Board of Directors.”

The event is scheduled to take place from July 21-24 in 2022 and despite the current situation when it comes to Covid-19, the City is confident that the games will take place in a year and a half.

“One of the great things about this particular event is that it is B.C. It is just our province and the neighbors aren’t crazy in the number of spectators and athletes that will be coming to the City. We are really confident that this is going to be a wonderful opportunity to come back as a community and celebrate in 2022,” added Rubadeau.

The event will bring around 3,500 athletes, coaches, and spectators to the City.

The Nomination Committee will have their first meeting in the new year.
