PRINCE GEORGE – Today marks a special milestone for radio in Prince George as it was 75 years ago today, that CKPG Radio was born.

It’s a birthday the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group plans to celebrate this week. During its 75 year journey, CKPG AM radio changed formats and names several times and is known today as 99.3 The Drive featuring classic hits.

According to longtime radio host Doug Jones, radio has always had the same goal and that’s making a connection with people and the community.

New technologies have changed the way CKPG Radio reaches its audience, however, but one thing that stays the same is the importance of the music.

Since February 8, 1946 CKPG Radio helped lay the groundwork for its sister operations to grow and the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group stations aim to stay a big part of the community for many more years to come.
