PRINCE GEORGE – A display project in the hallway at UNBC is raising eyebrows. The project was done by student Fizza Rashid to demonstrate the impact of sexual violence and debunk the myth that clothes women or girls wear are the reason they are sexually assaulted.
Rashid was inspired by a display in the UK and the various local women who came forth with their sexual assault stories.
The Rape Myth Clothesline shares stories of six individuals, each showing the clothing they were wearing at the time they were assaulted.
According to Executive Director of the Northern Women’s Centre Sarah Boyd, there were over 30,000 sexual assaults in Canada in 2019 and she says that number has been increasing.
