PRINCE GEORGE – International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to remember the achievements of women around the world, including here in Prince George.

This worldwide women’s rights movement has continued to bring attention to the importance of gender equality.

Executive Director, The Northern Women’s Centre Sarah Boyd wishes it was international women’s every day of the year. Boyd has been part of the Northern Women’s Centre located at UNBC for almost twenty years.

She’s pleased that there is a day of the year to celebrate women’s accomplishments and discuss work that still needs to be done.

Locally there are plans in the works at UNBC to have free menstrual products in washrooms and on the world stage, Boyd says more and more women are finding themselves in key roles.

According to Boyd education will help lead to a cultural change toward gender equality.
