PRINCE GEORGE — Two suspects have been arrested following a pair of robberies Sunday morning.

Prince George RCMP say the first robbery occurred at around 6:30 a.m. at the corner of Victoria Street and 20th Avenue.

Police say a male suspect struck a person in the head a couple of times with what appeared to be a lanyard and ball while riding a bike and stole his cell phone.

About an hour later there was another robbery at a convenience store on the 1500 block of 20th Avenue.

Police allege two people entered the business and threatened staff with a metal bike lock and chain and stole five packs of cigarettes.

“One suspect demanded staff give them all of the cigarettes and if they did not, that he would shoot them,” says RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

The pair were arrested a few minutes after leaving the store.

“Police located all five packages of cigarettes on the two suspects as well as a cell phone, which was determined to belong to the victim of the first robbery,” says Cooper.

32-year-old Derek Henry of Edmonton is facing charges in connection with both incidents, including two counts of robbery, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and one count each of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

41-year-old Georgina West of Prince George has been charged in connection with the incident at the convenience store and is facing two charges including one count of robbery and one count of possession of an imitation weapon.

Henry is in police custody until his next court appearance while West has been released and will return to court at a future date.
