Search crews scour Hixon area in search of missing boy

HIXON — Update: Prince George RCMP have revealed more details into the search for Luke.

Cst. Jennifer Cooper says search and rescue crews are using a grid pattern south of Hixon to search where it’s most likely Luke would have walked to. She says that’s been supplemented with the use of an RCMP drone and helicopter.

We also asked Cooper why an amber alert wasn’t issued in this case.

“There’s a few different factors that play into that. One of the most important ones is for an amber alert there has to be a suspect. And so we don’t know if the boy got into a vehicle or with whom. So, theres’ no where to direct an amber alert to at this time.”

Could Luke have been abducted?

“It’s a possibility he was along the highway but we’re not prepared to say there was an abduction.”

As for when the search may turn into a recovery mission.

“I don’t have an answer to that. I don’t know what he took with him, I don’t now what kind of resources the young guy has with him or how far he’s managed to get at this point.”

Earlier: Still no sign of a missing boy last seen Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m..

Prince George RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper says search crews have been scouring the area south of Hixon in search of Luke all day and night, but so far have not been successful in locating him. Luke is just 12 years old.

Luke is described as:

  • White
  • Four feet tall
  • Slim build
  • Light brown/blonde, curly hair
  • Hazel eyes

He was last seen wearing:

  • Green and yellow coat with duct tape on it
  • Black hoodie
