PRINCE GEORGE – Over the past few months, some Prince George police officers have taken temporary postings in northern isolated communities to provide staffing relief.

Local officer Cst. Jean-Francois Monette spent some time up north policing in sub-zero temperatures hovering around minus 40 this year.

Monette spent a month in the community of Kuglugtuk, located on the shores of the Arctic Ocean.

He applied for a temporary northern posting to learn how to police in a small community. According to Monette, extreme temperature swings can change the way policing is conducted.

The demand for northern postings is constant. Northern postings are open to all ranks of officers looking for a northern adventure.
