Spruce Kings win 2-0 over Centennials, Trotter claims first BCHL shutout

CHILLIWACK, BC – Andrew Seaman’s fifth of the Pod Season and Nick Rhéaume’s first BCHL goal, backed by a 20 save shutout from Aaron Trotter led to the Spruce Kings third victory in the Pod with a 2-0 victory over the Merritt Centennials.

5:19 into the opening frame, it was Andrew Seaman who picked the pocket of a Centennial forward and was able to slide a backhander on a breakaway underneath the pad of Josh Dias to give Prince George an early lead. Seaman’s team-leading fifth of the season was unassisted.

Prince George led in the shots department in the second period, however, neither team could find the back of the net.

4:08 into the third period, Nick Rheaume received a Rowan Miller pass off the boards and fired it over the shoulder of Dias to make it 2-0. Rheaumes first BCHL goal was assisted by Miller who had the lone helper.

The game ended with the Spruce Kings outshooting the Centennials 36 to 20, and winning on the scoreboard with a 2-0 win.

Aaron Trotter had a 20-save effort, shutting the doors all night against Merritt and earning his first BCHL shutout, improving his record for the season to 2-1.

Prince George will be back on the ice Monday night against the Chilliwack Chiefs. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
