HBIQ Sports to provide “full package” in player development through six-week camp this summer

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s not your typical hockey camp.

HBIQ Sports is a 360 development company when it comes to the sport of hockey. Not only do they do the on-ice training, but they also provide in-depth analytics for their athletes.

“The athletes that will be coming to camp here this summer, they will be getting a full package,” explained Matt Stang, owner of HBIQ Sports. “They will get the on-ice development, they will get the off-ice development, and then throughout the season they will get five one-hour sessions of video just to help them out throughout the season.”

Stang is a former professional hockey player who since retiring from the game has devoted his time now giving back to the game that has given him so much.

HBIQ Sports is a six-week on-ice power skating and skills program consisting of 90 minutes of on-ice and 90 minutes of off-ice instruction. After each day, each athlete will be emailed reference game clips that will show the many spots where they could use the skills learned from that day.

Within the six weeks, there will be two weeks of power skating, three weeks of skill development, with the final week being split between practice drills and small area games to work on the newly learned elements. The final week will be dependent on where provincial restrictions stand in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the camp itself is six weeks, the coaching team at HBIQThere will also be a full 360-degree on-ice video analysis throughout the camp while also receiving five 60-minute video sessions throughout the athlete’s upcoming season.

This summer will be the first six-week development camp that HBIQ Sports is putting on in Prince George, with a slate of coaches, many with NHL experience, including mental health coach Brenley Shapiro from the Arizona Coyotes.

Other coaches will include Steve O’Rourke, Tim Turk, Dan Cioffi, Dan Cook, and more.

“With the six weeks, it gives us time. It gives us the freedom to make sure we’re not only working on skating; we’re not only working on shooting, we’re working on the full package of the player,” says Stang.

According to Stang, HBIQ Sports’ Evolution Development Camp is focusing on 13-year-olds right up to the junior and pro levels. The camp will run the last week of June with five days of gym sessions and four days of on-ice time.

The camp will wrap up after the August long weekend.
