PRINCE GEORGE – Those residents who live in College Heights and surrounding areas may see smoke coming from the Domano forest service road today.

The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a prescribed burn at the Prince George Tree Improvement Centre. The site is located about 10 kilometres south of Prince George.

The wildfire service crews plan to burn approximately 8 hectares of the total planned 18 hectares. The purpose of the burn is to help prepare the area for silviculture and reduce the risk of future wildfires by reducing the accumulation of surface fuels.

The control burns are scheduled until May 7. BC Wildfire Service staff will be on-site to control and monitor the fire.

The decision on when to start burning will depend on weather and site conditions. As such, burns are only conducted when conditions are suitable.

All burning activities will adhere to the Open Burning and Smoke Control Regulation to limit the impact on air quality in nearby communities.
