Gas prices continue to rise

PRINCE GEORGE — Gas prices reached as high as 140.9 per litre this week in Prince George and prices could get even higher this summer.

That according to GasBuddy Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick De Haan.

“I think it’s possible. Really, everything is in the hands of this recovery. If vaccinations ramp up across Canada, that could help Canadians feel more comfortable getting out and about and taking trips this summer,” he told CKPG Today.

With international travel unlikely this summer, he says it could “lead to an intense need for gas which could boost prices even further.”

De Haan says another factor in fuel prices in Canada is the recent carbon tax increase which has boosted taxation.

“And that’s lead us to a place where the average prices in Prince George are a 130.0 a litre, quite a bit higher than last year when we were shelling out just 90 cents a litre.”
