Man arrested following morning crash on Highway 16 in PG

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: Police have released more details inot this morning’s traffic accident.

RCMP say it all started at around 9:15 a.m. when they learned of a possible impaired driver on Highway 97 heading to Prince George.

An officer tried to intercept the Dodge pickup which was travelling at 150 kilometres per hour but was unsuccessful. Minutes later the Dodge pickup rear ended a BC Sheriff’s van at the bottom of Peden Hill on Highway 16.

The driver of the Dodge was arrested and is currently under investigation for impaired driving and prohibited driving. Anyone with information or dash cam video is asked to call police.

Earlier: Prince George RCMP say traffic is moving again.

Earlier: Motorists should avoid Highway 16 near Cowart Road this morning.

This following a two-vehicle crash at the bottom of Peden Hill at around 9:30 a.m.. Cst. Jennifer Cooper says the highway is closed in both directions between Cowart Road and Range Road.

No word yet on what caused the crash or if anyone is injured.
