City is aware of tent city

PRINCE GEORGE – A small tent city pops up periodically at the corner of First Avenue and George Street and it is typically gone within a day, courtesy of the City’s Bylaw Services Department, which cleans up camps like it all over the city, under the Parks and Open Spaces bylaw.

“Currently, we have a Parks and Open Spaces bylaw, which stipulates that there are to be no camps no construction of temporary abodes or shelters in a park or open space,” explains Charlotte Peters, Manager of Bylaw Services.

The RCMP says it is aware of the camps but adds, its presence at First and George is resulting in a real drop in calls for services.
