Local reaction to George Street tent city
PRINCE GEORGE – A “Tent City” has popped up on the corner of George Street and 1st street. According to some people online, this has become a nuisance for businesses around the area. Todd Corrigall, Chief Executive Officer for the Chamber of Commerce says this simply isn’t true.
“I think that is the biggest concern for us, is the misinformation that is going around, that is businesses have asked them to be move from Millennium Park when in fact that’s entirely not true. In fact, the feedback we’ve received since approximately April 13, when the program began to move people from 3rd and George to Millennium Park, was that the businesses were thrilled, they’ve seen such dramatic change,” says Todd Corrigall.
A different story today though, the group of people that originally created a space for themselves here, were promptly kicked out in the morning, and have been over the last couple of days. Advocates for the homeless say the shuffling and moving isn’t helping them and they need an actual solution.
