PRINCE GEORGE — One person was arrested following a gunshot in downtown Prince George this morning (May 11).

Local Mounties say they learned of the gunshot near the 1000 block of 6th Avenue at around 5:20 a.m. A witness told police she also heard what sounded like a loud argument between a man and a woman before the sound of gunfire.

Prince George RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper says officers immediately flooded the area near the corner of 7th Avenue and Dominion Street.

“Members witnessed the male drop a bag before running away from police. After a short foot pursuit, police arrested the male without further incident. Investigators spoke with the female and determined she had no injuries. She is cooperating with the investigation.”

Cooper says an examination of the bag discarded by the suspect revealed a firearm and a spent casing. Police arrested the man for the firearms offences and took him to the RCMP detachment where he will remain until a court hearing later today.
