Coastal Gaslink using helicopters to get to work sites

PRINCE GEORGE – It hasn’t been easy to get to work this spring for hundreds of Coastal Gaslink workers around Prince George.

A wet fall, along with a start to the spring that has been far from dry has led to the closure of two major Forest Service Roads, while limiting the weight on others.

“Just like the forestry industry, these resource roads are critical for our operations, so we’re managing the best that we can during the spring freshet,” said Kiel Giddens, Public Affairs Manager for TC Energy and the CGL Project.

According to officials, the back roads have taken an exceptional beating this year, a very wet 2020 left them saturated into the spring which has been far from dry, add that with industry activity and that leads us into today’s situation.

In fact, those in charge of the roads said they could not even remember the last time measures like this had to be taken.

CGL says their Parsnip Lodge is currently closed, and now 125 people are in hotels in Prince George and are currently being shipped out to work sites by helicopter near Bear Lake.

CGL says they planned for events like this to occur, and work will continue on the project thanks to Yellowhead Helicopters.

So without roads, thousands of dollars every day are being poured into helicopter transportation, something which does benefit both parties involved seven days a week.
