PRINCE GEORGE – A Prince George initial attack crew is part of the 43 BC Wildfire Service members heading east to Manitoba.

Minister of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resources Katrine Conroy says given the current fire situation in British Columbia, we have sufficient resources in place to respond appropriately to wildfire activity here.

Crews from across the province are already on their way east and will be deployed from an area three and a half hours north of Winnipeg.

One unit crew from the Kamloops Fire Centre along with seven 3 person initial attack crews from the Prince George Fire Centre, Southeast Fire Centre, Northwest Fire Centre, and the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Along with the Prince George initial attack crew from the NIFAC base, a crew from the Robson Valley are also headed to Manitoba.

The largest fire in Manitoba is currently just over 195,000 hectares, and is labelled out of control.

There are a total of seven active wildfires in the province of Manitoba.
