Cougars’ Samson, Gauthier crack NHL Scouting Bureau’s final rankings

PRINCE GEORGE – The NHL Central Scouting Bureau released its final rankings for prospects heading into the 2021 NHL Draft.

On the list of North American skaters, Prince George Cougars’ Ethan Samson ranked 92nd.

In the shortened 2021 season in the BC Division’s Hubcentres, Samson played 22 games for the Cats in what marked his second year with the team. The defenceman tallied 1 goal and 11 assists while posting a +3 plus/minus. It was a major improvement from his rookie season with the club, where he played in 61 games and posted just 7 points and a -10 plus/minus.

The product of Delta, BC, was selected by Prince George in the 2018 WHL Draft, 65th overall.

Meanwhile, Taylor Gauthier ranked 18th among North American Goalies.

In his fourth season with the Cougars, Gauthier played in 15 games and posted a 7-8 record. He managed to finish the season with a 2.74 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. He also tallied a 26-save shutout performance against the Vancouver Giants on May 5th.

Gauthier, a product of Calgary, was drafted by the Cougars 9th overall in the 2016 WHL Draft and has played in a total of 152 games, registering a career goals-against average of 3.23 and a .904 save percentage. His career record stands at 46-82. He was also selected as a member of Team Canada at the World Junior Championships held in Edmonton.
