Policies passed during the B.C. Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting

PRINCE GEORGE – Over the course of last weekend, the Prince George Chamber of Commerce was joined by colleagues from across BC to debate policy and put forward a solid vision for economic recovery to the Provincial Government.

The Prince George Chamber of Commerce delegation submitted three policies this year, including focus areas for increased usage of BC wood products in BC Housing initiatives, maintaining the office of the Auditor General for Local Government, and developing a strong re-investment strategy for gateway infrastructure.

“BC was built on forestry and continues to enjoy many of the benefits that forestry continues to provide to the entire economy of BC,” said Todd Corrigall, CEO, Prince George Chamber of Commerce. “This policy document encourages Government to utilize the Clean BC framework and ensure that BC products play a significant role in our economic recovery and building programs over the long term”.

As BC continues towards a strong economic recovery, the Prince George Chamber and our members felt it necessary for local governments to have access to a strong complement of services, outside of financial, from other levels.

The ‘Auditor General for Local Government as a Resource to Support Economic Recovery’ focuses on ensuring municipalities have access to those supports – ensuring projects of all scope proceed efficiently and in accordance with taxpayer expectations. The Prince George Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the membership for their feedback, ideas and support through the policy development process.

Additionally, we must recognize the tremendous work of every member of the Advocacy Committee who devote many hours to crafting and reviewing all 70 submissions to the BC Chamber of Commerce delegation.
