City seeks injunction to remove encampments

PRINCE GEORGE — The City is seeking an injunction to remove downtown encampments, including the one on George Street across from the court house.

In a news release, the City argues they represent an unlawful occupation and trespasses on city property and presents several health, safety, legal and environmental challenges.

The city plans to serve notice tomorrow, and at its Monday meeting, council will consider first three readings for a proposed new Safe Streets Bylaw.

That bylaw deals with behaviour on streets and sidewalks such as aggressive panhandling, loitering, littering, sidewalk obstruction, open drug use and needle disposal.
