PRINCE GEORGE–The United Way of Northern BC raised more than $1,300 this past weekend. The group held a BBQ fundraiser called ‘Smokie to the Rescue.’

A BBQ tent was set up outside of KMS Tools and Equipment from Thursday to Saturday. On the menu was regular hot dogs, beef dogs, and cold drinks.

Everything was sold off of donations.

The money will be used to support those in need in our community. They say that although fundraising in the last year has declined due to the pandemic, they’re happy for the turnout.

“We are estatic, we’ve gone all out, we’ve have had such fun putting this event together. We’ve raised more than we expected.” said Michele Brooke, Resource Development Officer at United Way NBC

United Way is always accepting donations. The group is also planning on hosting more BBQs in July and in August.
