Illegal dumping a big issue in Prince George.

PRINCE GEORGE – It seems there’s an influx of illegal dumping happening in and around the Prince George area.

Large piles of garbage are popping up everywhere, including right beside the CKPG News station. With enough complaints, the city usually has to send out a clean-up crew, which in the end, costs taxpayers dollars.

City Councilor Brian Skakun says some people just don’t seem to care where they dump their garbage, and it’s frustrating for him.

“All they do is dump it, and then the challenge is for the city to catch them doing it, or provide enough evidence that they can take people to court,” said Skakun. ” I think we just have to really stand up and say, we are really going to nail your butts to the wall and make an example of some people.”

Skakun says there are reasonable options out there, for folks who need to dump large items and or recycle., but, people just don’t seem to care, which he says, is disappointing.

You are encouraged to report any illegal dumping and provide evidence if available. Skakun said, to take pictures if you can, but do not skim through the trash to try and find someone’s information, its dangerous, and you could prick yourself with a needle.

The city encourages people to head to The city website, or the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, for a complete list of items you can bring, both big or small.
