PRINCE GEORGE – Grade 5 students at Van Bien Elementary busted some moves, and learned about Indigenous culture as part of a recent project.

Each and every year the Indigenous Educators in School District 57 think of new ways to empower the youth through culture.

This year they thought they would try something different and challenged the kids to create their own music video with a focus on the 7 teachings and the guidance of the Dakelh Wholistic Lifelong Learning Model,

“We are just so proud of the kids and what they accomplished,” said Kat Eddy, Indigenous Education Worker for SD57.

The best part according to the students was the dancing involved in making the music video, although many said the reactions of their parents were nothing short of priceless.

Great North Sound Studio completed this project for free with limited availability and portable gear. They even provided an original composition for this project. The song entitled ‘Stand Tall’ was written and composed by James Eddy (The Family Man).
