PRINCE GEORGE – There were four wildfires of note within the Prince George Fire Centre Region as of Monday morning, and several in BC are out of control.

As a result, Liberal MLA Mike Morris is calling on John Horgan to immediately enact a provincial state of emergency so those fighting the fires can quickly access resources.

Some of the fire crews based in the Prince George fire centre focus their efforts on the Chilako fire, southwest of Prince George, which is considered out of control and around 800 hectares. And in the same area is the Cutoff Creek fire, estimated to be 600 hectares in size.

Also within the PG Fire centre located southwest of Tumbler Ridge is the Tentfire Creek wildfire. A guard around that fire is nearly complete.

The Kennedy Siding fire near the Highway 39 junction is 30 hectares in size, and it is being held.

Over the weekend, 12 new fires start in the PG Fire Centre, and all of them were caused by lightning. A province-wide campfire ban is still in place until further notice.
