RCMP: Take extra caution when selling firearms online

PRINCE GEORGE – If you use an online marketplace to sell your firearms, the RCMP urges you to take extra caution.

Criminals are known to obtain addresses from online transactions and later break into homes and steal guns.

According to RCMP, the risk increases when selling firearms online. At times, sellers inadvertently share their addresses with strangers.

Police recommend taking your firearm to a local firearms store and have them broker the deal.

The RCMP suggests you do your homework for those wanting to meet buyers and confirm the buyer is legally allowed to possess a firearm.

According to police, sellers must ensure that buyers have a valid possession and acquisition licence by contacting the Canadian Firearms Program.
