Last month ranked as the 5th hottest June in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE–Last month’s heat wave and dry conditions set some records according to Environment Canada. The agency says it’s now ranked as the 5th hottest June ever in Prince George.

The highest temperature was on June 28th at 38.4 degrees.

Just 0.5 degrees away from the all-time record. Environment Canada says that last month the city saw less than half of its normal rainfall amount and that conditions were much drier than usual.

Overall, the city averaged a daily max temperature of 23.2 degrees which is three degrees hotter than last year’s.

“Just looking at the recent history, the last five June’s we’ve seen on record typically we’ve been sitting in and around 17, 18, 19, 20 degrees on average for the month of June. This June we came in with an average of about 23 degrees, when you look at all the temperatures of the entire month of June. Even though it may not seem like much, when you’re averaging over a significant period of time–like 30 days–seeing temperatures, few degrees more than what we’ve seen in recent history actually is quite significant.” said Lisa Evren, Meteorologist for Environment Canada.
