PRINCE GEORGE — The largest sidewalk paving project of the year is underway in Prince George.

The 365 metre stretch is located along 20th Avenue from Queensway to Maple Street. This project is one of five sidewalk operations scheduled for this year. In total, about 1.3 kilometres of sidewalk is set for repaving.

The city says they’ll also be installing 20 accessible ramps to help improve accessibility.

This operation is one of four sidewalk projects funded, in part, by the Community Works Fund, which is administered by the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) to allocate federal Gas Tax Funding based on population to each local government in British Columbia. Three other projects have received funding:

  • The east side of Kelly Road between Vellencher Rd and Austin Rd (completed)
  • Simon Fraser Ave North East side between Cowart Rd and Eton Ave
  • Ospika Blvd East Side between Ferry Ave and Pinewood St

Later this year, the sidewalk on the east side of Ospika Boulevard between Ferry Avenue and Pinewood Street will also be rehabilitated.
