Northern Health advises public to avoid excess outdoor exposure as air quality worsens

PRINCE GEORGE–The skies around Prince George continue to be hazy and the air quality health index isn’t showing signs of improvement.

Right now, Prince George has a low health risk index of three. Tonight could rise up to a high risk of 7. Tomorrow is forecasted to reach a moderate level of 5. The levels of particles in the air which would be dangerous to our health is at a moderate level and

Northern Health is advising people to avoid excess outdoor exposure. Using air purifiers and even certain face masks such as the N95s and KN95s can help reduce particle exposure.

“The masks that we’re actually using for COVID-19 help a little bit with wildfire smoke as well. They will reduce the number of smoke particles that we’re exposed to. Just be mindful of using masks when being really active outdoors, and some folks working outdoors may have a harder time breathing and that kind of thing as well.” Paula Tait .Technical Advisor, Northern Health
