Steelworkers react to Canfor curtailments

PRINCE GEORGE – Wildfires have forced lumber giant Canfor to scale back production at its sawmills in B-C and Alberta.
Canfor says it will curtail production capacity by about 115-million board feet over the third quarter of this year. All Canfor operations are impacted, some for a week, others for three weeks.
Employees are being offered the chance to do maintenance work. The company says the wildfires are creating supply chain issues and the United Steelworkers President Brian O’Rourke says that’s not a stretch.
