Thousands flock throughout the day at Rooftop Rock

PRINCE GEORGE—Thousands of people flocked to the CN Centre on Saturday throughout the day to take part in Rooftop Rock: The Flatbed Edition.

The event hosted by Kyle Sampson Productions Inc. and Canadian Tire of Prince George was originally scheduled to happen in 2020, but the pandemic put that on hold, so organizers got creative.

This year had live music, over a dozen food trucks, a car show, and more than 75 vendors.

Northern Health even held a pop-up COVID-19 clinic.

“I love that the community gathers. So to be able to do a free event, to be able to bring people together; this event has two sides. Helping the service providers get a fresh start on a post-COVID life and it’s giving the public a chance to a fresh start at gathering again and learning ‘it’s okay, it’s safe, it’s comfortable. We can space out, we can pack in. We can stay or go, or whatever we want.’ It feels great to be part of the team—cause it’s a team effort—to bring this event together,” said Kyle Sampson, Co-organizer of Rooftop Rock.

The event was free to attend, but people were encouraged to donate what they can for the The Wheelin’ Warriors of the North (the BC Cancer Foundation). Sampson hopes to raise a least $10,000.

The Royal Canadian Airforce also did two flyovers at the event in support.

“I think we’re going to hit it. Prince George is a very generous community and I have no doubt that we’ll make that mark, but it’s a free entry. We’re encouraging donations. The Wheelin Warriors are here, they’re helping us out. They’re around the site volunteering and in return we’re asking people to make that donation,” said Sampson.

With the succesful turnout at Rooftop Rock, Sampson says he’s very excited to host his next big event in September: The Best Damn Music Festival.

“Next month we have another event: The Best Damn Music Festival. It’s a two-day country music festival. It’s going to go into the same effort of being a safe, well-ran event.” said Sampson.

The event is running right now until 9PM.
