.PRINCE GEORGE – For Joe Schlitt it was a shocking discovery when tools and other pieces of equipment were stolen from his garage in North Nechako in late-July.

The 92-year-old says the stolen goods add up to almost $20 thousand, including an air compressor, pressure washer, and other tools he inherited throughout his career as a heavy-duty mechanic.

“I couldn’t believe it, and I shouldn’t say it, but I started crying but I knew that wasn’t going to help,” says Schlitt.

Perhaps the most shocking part is how the thieves got in, which was a very planned attack alongside the rural property through the bushes, avoiding the motion-sensored lights.

Thieves didn’t take everything either, instead of breaking down the door and running away with everything they could carry, these thieves were very selective.

A file was opened under the Prince George RCMP, although two weeks after the robbery none of Joe’s stolen belongings have been found.

Luckily, insurance did cover the loss, although money can’t replace what was stolen according to Silvia Morrison, Joe’s daughter.

“Those are things you just can’t find these days,” says Morrison.

The message the pair wants to share is simple, take pictures of your belongings even if you don’t write down all the serial numbers.
