U.S. travellers arriving

PRINCE GEORGE – The borders opened to American travellers earlier this week and Tourism Prince George says it is already seeing foreign plates.

“This week we’ve seen seven different parties coming from the States. And that’s not everyone from the United States stops here,” explains Colin Carson, CEO of Tourism Prince George. “We’re seeing a snapshot. Mostly from California. We’ve also seen from Utah and Virginia.”

That, despite the fact only 51% of Americans have been fully vaccinated.

“Everyone has to be vaccinated who is coming across,” assures Carson. “They’ve had to have their second dose at least 14 days ago, it has to be an approved vaccine and also have to show a negative COVID test upon entry. So that will improve some confidence that we’re doing a good job and they’re safe coming across the border.”

Prince George is heavily dependent on the rubber tire traffic, with US travellers heading north to Alaska. And Carson says while it will be good to see the US tourist return, will be even happier when the borders are opened to international travel once again.
