Peace River Regional District issues evacuation alert in response to Pine Pass wildfire

PRINCE GEORGE — An evacuation alert was issued by the Peace River Regional District Sunday (Aug. 15) morning.

The alert for Electoral Area ‘E’ near Mt. Lemoray is due to the 2,000-hectare Pine Pass wildfire.

Properties affected include:

The Pine Pass wildfire caused Highway 97 between Powder King Road and Old Hasler Road to close on Friday (Aug. 13), before it re-opened the next day. The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) confirmed several structures were lost in the aggressive blaze that was initially reported late Friday afternoon.

According to the BCWS this fire is believed to be human caused.
