‘It’s almost overwhelming’: Birchwood Veterinary Clinic opens their doors during record demand

PRINCE GEORGE – As pet popularity skyrockets during the pandemic, local vets have been overwhelmed trying to meet demand, and they will now have some more help.

Birchwood Veterinary Clinic recently opened their doors in The Gateway on Victoria Street, and had a large demand for their services before they even opened.

“We had 600 patients before we even opened our doors,” says Dr. Ben Bauman.

Other clinics around Prince George say they are glad to see the clinic open as well. Instead of patients being competition, at this point in time with pandemic pets fuelling record demand for pet services, any help is appreciated.

Ospika Animal Hospital have been referring patients to Birchwood because they simply can’t take any more, vets say they are already overwhelmed and there is no end in sight.

Not having enough vets is not a new problem, and also not a Prince George specific problem, instead, it’s more or less a national problem.

The new clinic on Victoria Street offers basic services similar to most clinics around Prince George.

What Dr. Bauman is most proud of is the facility he and his team have built in such a short time and look forward to providing care to as many patients as possible while providing quality care.
