PRINCE GEORGE — A woman is in hospital following a shooting downtown this morning.

Prince George RCMP say they responded to the shooting shortly after 3 a.m. near 5th Avenue and Ottawa Street.

“When Frontline members arrived at the “tent city,” they located one female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The female was transported to hospital for treatment of her injuries,” says Cpl. Jennifer Cooper. “The seriousness of her injuries is currently unknown. Initial indications are that this incident does not appear to be a random attack, but rather a targeted event.”

She says officers remain on scene speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence. The investigation is in its early stages and officers will be in the area for an undetermined amount of time.

“Police are aware that criminal activity in the area surrounding the “tent city” has increased. As a result, we have increased our patrols with expanded shift coverage in the area and are working with the city to mitigate the issues and to ensure the safety of the public.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (250)561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477.
