PRINCE GEORGE– School zones are back in effect here in Prince George and drivers better be on notice.

The Prince George RCMP, in partnership with School District 57, ICBC, and CVSE was at Pineview Elementary School this morning to monitor drivers’ speed through the 30km/school zone.

Drivers were pulled over this morning with warnings, others got tickets, while 2 cars traveling at excessive speeds of 79 and 91km/h got impounded.

CPL. Jennifer Cooper with the Prince George RCMP says that even though drivers might be frustrated with a ticket for speeding in a school zone it’s the rules and it keeps people safe.

RCMP says this won’t be a one-time thing as they plan to set up more patrols like this throughout the next 2 weeks at different schools around the city.

You can get up to a $253 fine if caught speeding in a school zone and RCMP caution you to be extra aware when driving through them as well as remind you to stay off your phone and focus on the road.
