McHappy Day in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – Wednesday was McHappy Day! This year, a portion from every Mcdonald’s purchase will go towards supporting families with sick children at the Ronald McDonald House as well as locally.

“Today is our national day to raise money for Ronald McDonald House. Specificly for the B.C. and the Yukon in British Columbia and locally here in Prince George we are also raising money for the Child Development Centre,” said McDonald’s Operations Manager Eric Simmons.

It was a very McHappy day at Mcdonald’s, PG RCMP were hanging out at the 15th and Central location, greeting guests as they came in for their morning coffee.

“Prince George RCMP has always been a proud supporter and partner of McHappy day. We enjoy being able to continue on this partnership,” said PG RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

Today, 1 in 4 Canadian families have either stayed at RMHC or, like Cooper, know someone who has.

“I have a few little friends in my life whose families have utilized Ronald McDonald House while they’ve been undergoing treatment at the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. I am particularly honoured to be able to help out in this way and help gather some donations for this great cause,” added Cooper.

Each year, RMHC helps thousands of families save more than $8.3 million from out-of-pocket expenses like accommodations, travel, and meals.

“In 2020, 126 families from Northern B.C. used Ronald McDonald House – the average stay, if the family of a sick child was to pay expenses, would be an average cost of $6000 which they don’t have to pay thanks to the Ronald McDonald House,” added Simmons.

On Wednesday, guests could enjoy any menu item and round their bill up to the nearest dollar all in support of the cause.

“Children always have a special corner in everyone’s heart, I believe that we should donate some of our earnings if it means that saving them can be made much easier,” added McDonald’s Guest Experience Leader, Preet Kaur.
