PRINCE GEORGE – Northern Health has responded following parents speaking out about their concerns around the COVID-19 situation at Southridge Elementary in School DIstrict 57.

On Monday parents reported at least eight positive cases among students in one class, with more students awaiting test results.

Jenn Goldie raised concerns to CKPG News about the lack of transparency around the situation, and the lack of response from public health officials.

Several parents at the school claimed they had received no information following the eight positive COVID-19 cases.

In response Northern Health stated:

There are currently no declared clusters or outbreaks in Northern Health region schools (in other words, where there is concern that COVID-19 transmission has been occurring in the school setting). This doesn’t mean there aren’t potentially linked cases within households or the community, stemming from exposures in non-school settings, given high rates of COVID-19 activity in the region.”

In addition, Northern Health encourages anyone who is displaying symptoms or is concerned about being a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 to get tested.

More details about BC’s COVID-19 school reporting system are expected to be announced on Tuesday by BC Health Officials.
