‘Ring of Fire’ at Goodsir Nature Park

The plant is called Pink Spirea—which is part of the rose family. The plant is common and can be found almost anywhere.

When the plant grows on land, it typically gives off a yellow colour.

When the plant grows near a body of water, and the proper weather conditions are met, it can give off a fiery red colour. Producing what Good calls a Ring of Fire.

“I think what has caused this plant to come out spectacular in its autumn flame is that we had a hot summer, a very hot summer this year. Followed by a cool, almost normal fall.” said Good.

Of course, ‘Ring of Fire’ isn’t an official term for the phenomenon. Good says he came up with it himself, combining his two passions: plants and music.

“There are two songs from the early 60s that share the same title, they’re not related. The song’s called Ring of Fire. One of them is by Duane Eddy…the other one came out in early 1964. A lot of people would probably remember Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire.” said Good.

The owner says there’s not much time left to see the Ring of Fire. He believes it will last through the end of the week.
