PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Spruce Kings scored five times on the man advantage, along with a hat trick effort from Nick Rhéaume and two goals from Austin Fraser, which propelled PG to a 7-1 victory over the Penticton Vees. Prince George has now won five games in a row and improved their record to 6-1-0-0.

2:38 into the opening frame, a Kolton Cousins shot from the left circle was initially stopped by Kaeden Lane, but the rebound came to Austin Fraser and he fired it in the open cage on the glove side to give the Spruce Kings an early lead. Fraser’s second of the year came at 2:38.

On a Vees power-play, the Vees captain, and former Spruce King Fin Williams wristed home his third of the season by Aaron Trotter to tie the game at one. The Williams tally came at 17:09 of the opening period.

On another Prince George Spruce King power-play, Dylan Schives spotted John Herrington and Herrington absolutely wired a one-timer from the right circle by the head of Lane, top corner to regain the Spruce Kings lead. Herrington’s third of the year was assisted by Dylan Schives and Simon Labelle at 18:34.

On another Prince George Spruce King power-play, Nick Rhéaume got the puck in tight and shovelled it past Lane to make it 3-1 in the 2nd period. Rhéaume’s fifth of the year was assisted by John Herrington at 12:56.

Less than two minutes later, it was again Rhéaume who took a wrist shot off the glove of Lane, and the puck sneaked by the goal line and gave the Spruce Kings a 4-1 lead. Rhéaume’s second of the game was assisted by Simon Labelle and Brody Gagno at 14:53.

A similar type of sequence to Rhéaume’s second goal, a wrist shot from Ty Gagno again went off the glove of Lane and the puck sat in the blue paint and the puck got put home by Austin Fraser to add to the Spruce Kings lead. Fraser’s second of the game came at 17:25.

5:51 into the third period, it was once again Rhéaume who ripped a shot by Colin Purcell to give the Spruce Kings a 6-1 lead. Rhéaume’s hat trick goal was assisted by both John Herrington and Rowan Miller on the power-play.

Josh Wright got the puck below the goal line and threw the puck to the goal, and it hit the post, hit Colin Purcell, and found its way in the back of the net to make it 7-1. Wright’s first as a Spruce King was assisted by Nathan Fox at 12:23.

The Spruce Kings will not look to head to Penticton for a rematch against the Vees on Friday.
