Prince George’s top cop sounds off on potential decriminalization of illicit drugs

Nov 3, 2021 | 4:33 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – Earlier this week the province announced they would be pursuing the decriminalization of the personal possession of up to 4.5g of illicit drugs.

That news is not going over well with Prince George’s top cop.

“First of all, I wouldn’t consider 4 and a half grams of illicit drugs to be a small amount, that is well beyond the average personal use,” said Supt. Shaun Wright. “Really I think there are a lot of negative unintended consequences that are going to come from that decision if it is actually implemented.”

Wright fears the drug traffickers will utilize the new rules and the “high limit” in his mind to sell illicit drugs on the street.
