Spruce Kings win 1970s night, split weekend with Smoke Eaters
PRINCE GEORGE — The weekend was a mixed bag of results on the ice, but aesthetically pleasing Friday thanks to the Prince George Spruce Kings’ and Trail Smoke Eaters’ throwback jerseys.
On Friday (Nov. 5), the Spruce Kings started hot with three goals in the first period, although it wasn’t close to being over.
The Smoke Eaters roared back with three unanswered goals to tie it halfway through the third, but two power play goals in the final 2:20 – thanks to Rowan Miller and Nick Rheaume – gave the hometown fans at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena a lot to cheer for in a 5-3 win.
The following night on Saturday (Nov. 6), the Spruce Kings couldn’t fully rebound when the Smoke Eaters responded with three unanswered goals, even though they outshot Trail by a wide margin. John Herrington scored in the final five minutes, but the Spruce Kings couldn’t complete the comeback in a 3-2 defeat.
