PRINCE GEORGE- Joshua Alexander Neumann was arrested on Saturday afternoon after swimming across the icy Nechako River in an attempt to escape police.

Police responded to multiple reports of break and enter in the North Nechako Road area shortly after 3:00 pm. With the help of the police dog service team, officers tracked Neumann to the backyard of a nearby residence. After arresting the 31-year-old, police determined he had swam across the icy river, a move RCMP Corporal Jennifer Cooper says was extremely dangerous.

The BC Prosecution Service has since approved charges of break and enter with intent, mischief, theft under $5,000, possession of break in instruments, and failure to comply with release order.

“RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in capturing the suspect,” said Cooper.
