BC enters state of emergency

Nov 17, 2021 | 1:10 PM

BC- Premier John Horgan has enacted a state of emergency in light of the severe weather activity that has struck the province. The BC RCMP have confirmed mudslides have claimed at least one life. Police expect to confirm more fatalities as search and rescue efforts continue.

“Heavy rains, strong winds, flooding have devastated entire communities of our province. Thousands of people have been forced from their homes under evacuation orders and many others were left stranded between road closures and mud slides,” said Horgan.

The province has requested the Canadian Armed Forces be deployed to assist with evacuations, manage supply chains and re-supply chains and provide security in areas of need. According to Horgan, the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario governments have already reached out to help the province in any way necessary.
