LILLOOET, B.C. — Lillooet RCMP confirmed that the bodies of three men have been recovered from the search at the mudslide near Duffy Lake Road.

In a news release Saturday (Nov. 20) morning, RCMP say the three men were amongst those who they considered missing from the Highway 99 mudslide south of Lillooet.

“We have been continuing the search for one more man, however search efforts have been hampered by weather and site conditions,” BC RCMP S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet states.

Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe states one person was located deceased on Monday (Nov. 15), another on Wednesday (Nov. 17), and two on Thursday (Nov. 18). Efforts continued to locate a fifth person on Friday but were unsuccessful.

RCMP say search efforts, that included a police service dog, continued throughout the remainder of Friday (Nov. 19) morning but have now since concluded. Police say all current search efforts have been exhausted and discussions are underway as to how and when to proceed.

The body of a woman was recovered from the mudslide earlier this week.

The Highway 99/Duffy Lake Road area remains closed to motorists from Lillooet to Pemberton, and there is no timeline with respect to when the roadway may be open.
