PRINCE GEORGE- About 15 cm of snowfall has hit Prince George over the last day and a half. According to Environment Canada, the community will see a short break from the snow before it returns on New Year’s Eve where periods of snow could fall throughout the day.

Brian Proctor, Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says PG is experiencing colder than usual weather as the low’s tend to hover around minus 13 for this time of year. However, yesterday’s weather wasn’t record breaking like it was on Sunday.

“The extreme cold record for yesterday (Wednesday) was minus 44 recorded in 1984, so while the cold is unusual for this time of year, it’s still about 12 degrees off the record,” he said.

The coldest weather of the year tends to hit PG in January and early February, according to Proctor. He says next week it will gradually cool off once again throughout the course of the first week of January after some snowfall on New Year’s Eve.
