PRINCE GEORGE – BC Premier John Horgan was back in the legislature for the throne speech on Tuesday following successful cancer treatments to take in the throne speech for this session of the legislature.

The throne speech put an emphasis once again on “putting people first” a line mentioned multiple times throughout the address.

Topics included everything from reconciliation to healthcare, to climate change, and economic recovery signalling the discussion that lies ahead in Victoria.

Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, delivered the speech from the throne which highlighted that B.C. has one of the highest vaccination rates in North America and the strongest economic recovery in Canada – with more people working today than when the pandemic began according to the province.

“It doesn’t just happen by accident,” said Horgan when talking about the province’s economy.

Horgan said having the right people in the right positions continues to put BC ahead of others across the country.

In the year ahead, the government said they will continue to improve health care, fight climate change and help communities adapt to extreme weather while addressing affordability challenges.

Interim Leader of the Opposition Shirley Bond responded to the address by asking what was new.

“The vast majority of the speech today looked back, repeated promises that haven’t been delivered, virtually nothing new,” said Bond.

Horgan responded by mentioning the budget will deliver the full road map, in just a few weeks along with more information about BC’s economic recovery in a plan to be announced soon according to the Premier.
